Why gifting slowly and thoughtfully matters

Life feels so fast these days. Shops are filled with quick-fix gifts and endless choice, but I’ve always preferred slowing down when it comes to gifting!
There’s something about taking time to choose (or create) a present that makes it more meaningful, both for the giver and the person receiving it.
That’s really where my love for painting candles came from. When I sit down with a plain candle, brush in hand, it’s never rushed.
Each design takes patience and focus. I often think about who it might end up with, perhaps as a Christmas centrepiece, or in a box of bridesmaid gifts, or wrapped up as a birthday surprise. That thought process is what makes it so cool to think about.
One of the loveliest things about gifting a hand painted candle is that it can become a new ritual for the person receiving it. It might become part of a relaxing bath at the end of a long day, or a quiet moment with a book and a cup of tea, or simply a way to soften the atmosphere at home after a busy week. It’s such a simple thing isn't it! Striking a match and watching the flame take hold, yet it creates space to slow down and breathe. Most of the time scented candles are used for this - but actually I just think it's the warmth and glow that a candle create's that makes it so lovely!
That’s why, for me, painting candles has never just been about making something decorative. It’s about offering the chance to create little pauses in the everyday, and rituals that make life feel that bit more thoughtful.
You can discover my full range of hand painted candles here at Wild Whims. Handmade with care, they’re designed for those who value thoughtful gifting and the beauty of slowing down.
